John Godber’s beautifully observed bittersweet comedy takes us from humdrum life in a small Yorkshire town on to a breathless journey around the riot of colour that is Paris, as Bet and Al win a prize of their first experience abroad, which will have lasting effects on both their relationship and their view of the world. They sort out French cuisine, wrestle with their phrasebook, and fend off would-be muggers on the Metro in this hilarious depiction of the English abroad.
